Homebound People
A large part of the community can be categorized as homebound, which can be due to sickness, recovery from illness, anxiety, depression, anger, dementia, personality disorders, phobias, schizophrenia, or even becoming a new mum. For some people staying at home is a benefit as you are in comfortable familiar surroundings. However to many people being confined to your own home can bring about feelings of boredom, isolation, uselessness and depression.
In old age it is very common to feel disconnected and to have a general feeling of abandonment due to the fact that the circle of friends and family gets smaller after retirement, loved ones die and many suffer from loss of mobility. Researchers found that loneliness was linked to lower levels of cognitive function as well as more rapid decline of function.We all need to feel part of something meaningful. Our health and well-being depends on it.
Based on this premises Recycling is Fun promotes the use of simple crafts projects for homebound people so they might discover and utilize a skill and to help them find purpose in their lives. Pleasurable activities such as crafts help the homebound rediscover positive physiological sensations like feeling useful, engaged, relaxed, entertained and stimulated.
